03.19.2011 1-Year Anniversary: VWVOFFKA ALL DAY FUNDRAISER

As you all may well know we have moved to a new address, 2 blocks north from our old location, at 2311 Frankford Avenue. March is a month of rebirth and the new storefront needs a lot of work including new floor, new lighting, new drywalling, a new paint job, and a lot more. To recoup some of these expenses we are holding a community-based fundraiser on Saturday, March 19th, 2011 starting at 2pm.

Come join us for a full day of artful moments and nostalgic memories as we celebrate our 1-year anniversary.

Here is a list of activities you can look forward to:
Doors open at 2pm.

There will be multiple vendors selling their wares, crafts, zines, comics, jewelry, food items, and other various items from the local art community. Currently we have room for up to 10 vendors. Each table costs $10 for all day. If interested please email vwvoffka@gmail.com for more information.

Face painting for the kids and adults for only $3. Our painters can make you a tiger, or a lion, or just plain far-out.

Live wall painting of our Exquisite Corpse leading to the Dream Oven.

Sam Cusumano's noise-bent toys will return in a new static installation throughout the gallery space.

50/50 Raffle tickets will be sold for various grab bags and other great art-filled prizes to go home with.

With weather permitting we will have an all day BBQ in our backyard with hot dogs, burgers, veggie burgers, and assorted toppings, as well as various refreshments.

Doors to the Dream Oven (in the basement of VWVOFFKA) will open and live music will commence, featuring members of the VWVOFFKA family and friends including Birds of Maya, Party Photographers, Petal Shield, Lagomasino/Fishkin, and The Soft Sea, DJing between sets.

Doors at 7pm.
Cost: $3-5 sliding scale, donation based.

All funds earned will go directly into rehabilitating the new store front space. Please stop by if you'd like to help out or even if you would like to just check out the new space. This takes place two days before the first day of spring, so hopefully we can look forward to warm weather and a nice full day well spent together. See you then!

If you'd like more information, or have an idea to help fundraise, please send an email to vwvoffka@gmail.com. Thanks so much!

Soundoffka Vol. 2 is an aural and visual exhibition hosted by VWVOFFKA. Opening reception will be on first friday, November 5th from 6-11pm. Closing reception will be Friday November 19th from 7-11pm. Soundoffka Vol. 2 will be featuring the work of Adam Zucker, Jason A. Maas, Sarah Weber, Corey Pace, Christopher Gage, Megan Kelley, Bonnie MacAllister, and Brian McLendon. Soundoffka is a series of exhibitions in which artists explore the use of sound as an art form, expression, and the ways we relate to the vast aural landscape around us.

Soundoffka Vol. 1 was a fresh collaboration between artists, working on individual pieces, which lent themselves towards the overall experience. It was also an interactive experience in which the audience became a crucial collaborative aspect to the overall piece. During the creation of Vol. 1 we also realized how vital the visual aesthetics of the space came into play. Soundoffka Vol. 2 will further expand upon these concepts of collaboration, interaction, and the relationship between sound and sight. The participating artists have been paired with artists they have never previously worked with. The artists will be exploring these themes through a variety of mediums. Pieces ranging from site-specific installations, video projections, aural installations, multi-dimensional performances, interactive soundscapes, and various series of drawings and paintings will provide a fresh and palatable exploration of sound as a viable, accessible medium.

10.01.10: SMALL OBJECTS

'Small Objects' is the operative name given by Linnea
Vegh and Steven Streisguth to their collaborative body of work. The
pieces are often a combination of inside jokes, second-hand anecdotes,
relationship detritus, and personal jetsam. Working in sculpture,
print, and found objects, the proximity of individual pieces form
constellations of personal mythology.

Opening on First Friday, October 1st at 6pm.
Refreshments and delicious home brews catered by Bongo Zeptobrewery

Soundoffka Vol 2. Call For Artists

For Soundoffka Vol. 2, we would like to expand upon these concepts of collaboration, interaction, and the relationship between sound and sight.

The new concept for Soundoffka Vol. 2 is to pair up aural and visual artists, who have never worked together before, in groups of two or three people. Due to the nature of our space, the goal is to have 5-6 individual pieces that stimulate the senses by themselves, as well as contribute to the overall sound(offka) experiment, keeping in mind the individual listener's experience can contribute to the works end product.

Please submit a sample of your work and a short statement of your

previous installation experiences and your current objectives for your work. This does NOT mean that you must have experience doing installation,

and your submission will not be turned away if a "sample" of your work can't be squeezed into a photo or a sentence or an audio file. We just want

to know more about you in order to create sensible pairings of artists.

All artists, and sound entrepreneurs from Philadelphia and the surrounding tri-state areas are welcome to apply! Thank you! We look forward to hearing from you and working with you on this grand experiment in the aural and visual realms of human experience. Please have all submissions sent to vwvoffka@gmail.com and cc:

benjamin.contois@gmail.com with "Soundoffka Vol. 2 Submissions" in the subject line. Submissions are due on September 20th. Thank you!
